Every time I wet a line, I thank my lucky stars that I was fortunate to end up in Florida where the fishing is fantastic 365 days a year. Raised on the lakes and streams of the Northeast, I took a little while to figure out the state’s salt and freshwater fisheries.

Jake Gipson and Matthew Wercinski, members of the University of Florida fishing team, won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Southeast Regional Championship on Sanford’s Lake Monroe last weekend.
The two Niceville natives caught five bass weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces on the final day with a three-day total of 16 bass weighing 30 pounds 1 ounce. For their win, the Gators get a Ranger 177TR with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard wrapped in school colors and $25,000 for the University of Florida. …
